Adventures in the Good Life

The Engineer and I just got home last night from another weekend down in Nebraska.  Mostly we went to see his family and so I could get some practice in shooting my broad head tipped arrows.  It’s easy to find places to practice shooting in town, but broad head practice is essential….however hard to do when you live in town.  Enter…..The Engineer’s Dad’s house and land outta town.  Plus, there were plenty of pumpkins for target practice.

Anyway, Saturday was cold and rainy, so we filled the day with shopping!!!!  It doesn’t do much for practicing “being comfortable being uncomfortable” while hunting, but when fun shopping is so close it’s hard to want to stand out in the blowing rain shooting pumpkins.   The Engineer had never been to Trader Joe’s before, so I decided he needed to experience it all, and I needed to refill on some snackies!

Remember that one time I went to Trader Joe’s and accidentally bought the unsalted peanut butter filled pretzels and they were sorta sad?!  Well, I fixed that, actually paid attention to what I was doing, and got 2 bags of the blue, salted pretzels!  We had to get 2 bags this time because The Engineer really likes peanut butter, and it was the only snack that he actually admitted that he wanted from the store.  It took him a couple minutes to warm up to the whole excitement that is Trader Joe’s…….he felt out of place amongst the hipsters and health mommas.

SO, SO, GOOD!

I snagged a bag of trail mix, and I’m having severe regrets about not grabbing a couple more bags.  It must be their fall seasonal variety.  Actually, most of the store aisles were slightly over run with pumpkin spice-esk things.  Soups, sauces, pasta, spice mix, beer, pop tarts…..if you want it pumpkin spice flavored Trader Joe’s currently has it.  Don’t get me wrong, I like pumpkin spice just fine, but I don’t necessarily need it to overrun everything in my life.  I did make an exception for Harvest Spice.  If you don’t know what that is, it’s apparently just candied pecans and cashews…..so basically…..deliciousness.  The trail mix is rounded out with almonds, dried apples, and candied ginger chunks.  The bag is basically gone after we munched on it during our running around Omaha and on the drive home.  I probably won’t make it back to Trader Joe’s before fall is over, so fingers crossed Harvest Spice sticks around into early winter!

harvest-spice-trek-mix-300x238

The Engineer really perked up when we got to the frozen section.  I had actually never seriously shopped the frozen section because I had always just been to a Trader Joe’s on vacation, but this time we came prepared!  We hauled down a cooler, mostly so we could bring back another haul of elk meat.  Couple that with the fact that instead of a hotel, we stay with him parents, and it meant that I could shop the frozen section for the first time ever!

Our frozen food finds are the orange chicken and steak and ale pies.  Orange chicken is one of The Engineer’s favorite Chinese entrees, so we snagged two bags.  He decided he wants to pair the bags with fried rice from Hy-Vee…or so I thought.  When he texted earlier and said he’d pick up rice on the way home I assumed he’d arrive with takeout boxes of rice.  Instead, he brought home a bag of rice and we had to quick whip up some fried rice….which we apparently did wrong.  It tasted alright, but got a little overcooked because we didn’t fry cold rice…….Google tells me that makes it better.  I had only had Trader Joe’s orange chicken once before, and I wasn’t a huge fan.  We whipped some up tonight with our rice and it still wasn’t my favorite.  I liked it more than I remembered, but I wouldn’t rank it as my all time favorite Chinese food.  It will probably get some jazzing up, but I think it will become a staple purchase item whenever we wind up at Trader Joe’s.

66563-mandarin-orange-chicken

A decent meal in a pinch, and something worth having in the freezer for lazy nights.

The steak and ale pies I decided to try.  They just looked so warm and wintery, and the box weighs about a ton so I’m assuming each pie is very well stuffed.  Also, my mild to moderate obsession with The Great British Baking Show, Marry Berry, and Paul Hollywood has me convinced that savory pies are a thing I need in my life.  They are always making these great King Henry VIII sized meat pie towers of delicious….I need that in my life.  I don’t even bake and I feel suddenly compelled to turn my kitchen into a prep center for some sort of great hall feast al la history books and Harry Potter!

the-great-british-baking-show

If you don’t watch this show, you need to!  Ready……Set…..BAKE!!!!

So……we shall start with frozen Trader Joe’s and move upward from there.  Frankly, I’m not even sure I like meat pies, and it’s much easier to find that out at this stage than halfway through feast prep!  Plus, they seem like they would go excellent with some mashed potatoes….and I’m currently rocking a slight surplus of potatoes.

maxresdefault

I didn’t even notice until now, but each pie is about half a pound!  Should make for a very nice, quick, winter dinner!

The last of my fall/winter snackies is a jug of apple cider.  Some nights it’s just nice to come home and mull up some cider, maybe throw in some rum, and curl up with a good book and a blanket.  I’m hopeful that this won’t be too sweet, I like my cider a bit on the tangy side, so we will try it out and see how it goes.  Worse comes to worse, just add more rum I guess!

I rounded out the Trader Joe’s haul with a jar of my favorite salsa, the english toffee bars, and a few RX Bars.  All in all, a very successful shopping trip, and I think I converted The Engineer to the glories held within Trader Joe’s.

After Trader Joe’s, we scampered over to Cabela’s to scope out some turkey hunting supplies.  We did find a couple calls in the bargain cave, and I picked up a small multi-tool for my bow case.  I’m pretty sure I just annoyed him all the way back to Fremont trying to learn how to use my mouth call.  I’m not sure I sound very turkey-esk, but dying duck is a sound I’m pretty sure I have down.  There’s a couple weeks left of practice time, so maybe I’ll get my gobbling skills up to par.

Small Town Shopping

A couple weeks ago I was home to go to the dentist.  Yes, I know….I should probably just find a new dentist instead of using vacation days to go home just to see the dentist.  However, I have more vacation time then I ever know what to do with and change makes me nervous sooooo I think I’ll just keep going home.  I tried a new dentist once……worst decision ever!

Anyway, I was there for the weekend spending time with Momma MisHappenings and we did a little bored shopping to pass the weekend.  I’m a big online shopper, mostly because I hate having to leave my house, and most of the premium shopping opportunities are on the other side of town.  Also, sales people who bug me while I’m just shopping annoy me.  How is it when you don’t need them they are swarming around you, but if you actually have a valid question they scatter…..like bees…..they can just sense the struggle I guess.

I don’t mind going to small town stores though.  I know that you sometimes pay more, but my theory is that if you don’t support the small town options you won’t have any left.  I grew up in a smaller town that saw multiple businesses come and go over the years.  For some reason, coffee shops and bakeries seemed to have an especially hard time in my town…..which is a shame because adult MisHappenings loves coffee shops and bakeries.  Don’t get me wrong, I still do plenty of shopping at Walmart, but I believe life is all about balance….budgets, shopping, ya know…..things.

There’s a cute little store in my hometown called The Lemonade Stand.  It’s sorta shabby chic style with custom distressed furniture and cute decor and furnishing items.  They were open and then closed due to a family death, but I’m glad that the owner reopened the store.  It actually just recently reopened so I suggested to Momma that we swing through and see what had changed.  I ended up finding a couple cute things.

I’m trying  to make my upstairs loft/office into a sort of a Merlin’s laboratory or like Hogwart’s potions class style room.  To a point…..I’m not going to hang permanent cobwebs on my bookshelves or anything, but just the general vibe.  I’ve slowly been collecting stylized bottles and other small pieces that might work in the space.  The Lemonade Stand had a couple cute little things that I snatched up, and a cute little cement M for my Engineer since he was at home puppy sitting the Pupperoni girl.

Ahhh…cute lil cement “M” for The Engineer

IMG_8828

Hopefully, I can get in an get this turned into mercury glass, like a fancy little test tube stand!

The upstairs desk needed a garbage can, and this little rusty, distressed bucket seemed like he’d work great!

Momma had seen advertisements of a little consignment store down in Nebraska on Facebook, so we decided to take a little road trip down to check it out…..if Runza was going to be involved.  The store ended up being very cute.  It was much larger than I would have guessed, but they had a good mix of consignment items and new purchased items.  Momma and I wandered for awhile and scoped out the scene.  I could have spent way more money than I did, but I feel like I made some good purchases!

img_8824.jpg

This centerpiece came in three lengths, this was the mid length.  It’s all hinged so you can set it out in basically any shape you want.

I found a cute little reclaimed wood cabinet.  It has what appears to be an old cabinet door as a back panel, and then the rest is just pieced together.  It matches the upstairs bathroom which is blue with bird accents.  So, for $18 I got a cute new cabinet for the bathroom.  Besides, he had a pretty thick coat of dust, so it’s obvious he had been at the shop for awhile.  A new home was definitely in order.

Old Stores and New Favorites

Being gone from home lately has given me the chance to shop at some fun places we don’t have at home.  Lush, which I can order online but that’s less fun because you can’t smell through your computer, and Trader Joe’s are a couple of my favorite shopping destinations when I go to “the big city”.

Since I went to a actual Lush store twice the other week…..maybe we will start there!  My primary motivation at Lush the first time down in Omaha was getting a fun variety of bath time things for Lil B’s birthday present.  It was a super fast power shopping trip because we were on the way to The Engineer’s PE celebration dinner with his family.  Actually, his sister just dropped me off and circled the parking lot…..ain’t nobody have time to find parking at Village Point!  However, they had just released a new body wash scent, and I was super excited to try it.  Mostly because my favorite scent, Lord of Misrule, is a seasonal scent and smells more like fall and winter than it does spring and summer.  Enter…..Plum Rain!

lushgel

It’s fruity, but in a dark, adult sorta way.  That probably doesn’t make sense, but it doesn’t smell like childish tutti fruity gum.  Not that there is in anyway anything wrong with that tutti fruity Fruit Stripe gum.  Actually, there is something wrong…..it’s nearly impossible to find anymore, and the flavor doesn’t last as long as I want……however I’m getting side tracked.  I find that this fragrance, compared to other Lush body washes I’ve tried, lasts much longer.  I don’t ever remember smelling Lord of Misrule or The Olive Branch on myself post shower, but Plum Rain has a nice light amount of scent that seems to cling to me.  I think this scent has been available for some time in the UK, so I’m glad I can finally get my hands on it.  I think Plum Rain and Lord of Misrule, fingers crossed they bring it back again, will be my all the time go to scents.

The second trip to Lush was more of a casual shopping stop.  A coworker and I were in Minneapolis for a conference, we just got there a little early so we could shop!  She has two little girls who love the Lush bubble bars, so we stopped in so she could restock.  While wandering around the store I found a new body scrub and figured I’d give it a try.

I’ve tried the Ocean Salt scrub before, and just thought a change would be nice.  However, I’m not in love with the Rub Rub Rub scent.  I got a little bit of scent overload in the store, but thought that I would like this.  Once I got home, it’s a little too flowery for my liking.  I mean, it’s not bad, just not something I’d choose again.  I defiantly find the Ocean Salt scent to be more refreshing and neutral.  However, I do like that Rub Rub Rub has some bubble to it.  Scrub and body wash in one is a hard combo to beat.  Honestly, if they offered it in another scent I would be all about trying it.

Big city shopping trip number two was Trader Joe’s.  I feel like people who have Trader Joe’s near them don’t appreciate them the way they should….they are amazeballs!  The only down side is that I’m always traveling when I’m at one, so I can’t really explore the frozen or fresh sections of the store.  All that untapped potential!!

Since I have to mostly purchase dry goods…..I stick mostly to snackies.

pretzel

So in looking for a picture of my peanut butter pretzels I discovered I just grabbed the wrong color bag.  THE RED BAG IS UNSALTED!  Not that unsalted, peanut butter pretzels are the worst thing, but they certainly aren’t the best thing either.  They will definitely leave you feeling like they are missing something…..SALT…..but are a good snack to have around anyway.  I don’t love peanut butter, and these aren’t over powering…..although next time I will for sure be grabbing the BLUE BAG!

Since The Engineer was home watching the tiny, furry, terrorist, I thought he could use a couple yummy presents.  Since he pretty much eats what I eat, it wasn’t too hard coming up with some must have items.

I had previously grabbed a BBQ sauce here in town that’s a little too on the hot side for The Engineer.  We haven’t tried the Kentucky bourbon sauce yet, but reading over the ingredients doesn’t lead one to believe that it will be super hot.  We made some chicken, pepper, and pineapple hobo grill pouches a couple weeks ago and it should go well with that when we make them again.  The ginger beer was a fairly obvious choice.  However, in googling ways to reign in our budgets I was curious about the difference between ginger beer and ginger ale.  Turns out one is brewed and one is not, but all my research seemed to say that if you weren’t buying sorta artisanal, hipster, still cloudy in the bottle ginger beer…..it probably isn’t all that different from ginger ale.  All that is to say that I bought some ginger ale to make mules with….and he hated it.  So, since the Trader Joe’s bottles said “brewed” and it looked a little cloudy I figured it was worth trying.  I haven’t tried it, but The Engineer did.  I’m not sure that he was wowed enough by it for us to stock pile it, but it was probably a nice change from the diet stuff I usually keep in the house.

vanilla-cold-brew-coffee

Since I was going to be spending long days sitting at a conference with limited and generally crappy coffee, I grabbed a couple of these little guys to get me through the morning.  Plus side, they are small cans so they tucked right into my wristlet.  Down side, they are small…and a small coffee is never super ideal.  Some coffee is always better than no coffee though!

RX-Bar Title Image.jpg

My last Trader Joe’s purchase was a couple RX bars.  Basically, they are a quick and easy meal or snack bar, but they are are free from any extra junk.  My coworker likes them, and started eating them because most of the flavors are Whole 30 compliant.  So, I decided to give a couple a shot.  It’s always good to have a quick and easy grab and go something laying around the house.  I tried the Coconut Chocolate and the Chocolate Sea Salt.  I was anticipating that the Chocolate Sea Salt would be my least favorite, but I was wrong.  I’m generally not a huge fan of chocolate, but those I would definitely purchase again.  I’m on the fence about the coconut.  It wasn’t good…..but it also wasn’t bad.  The main win about buying these at Trader Joe’s is that they are WAY CHEAPER than I can purchase them here in town.  I believe that the bars were $1.60ish a piece at Joe’s……here at my local grocery store they are ALMOST $4!!!.  Get your crap together Hyvee!!!!

I also picked up a couple staples……the english toffee and the roasted tomatillo and mango salsa…..so good!  I grab them every time I go.  Hopefully, now that I’m headed down to the Omaha area more often with The Engineer, I’ll be able to hit up Lush and Trader Joe’s more often and keep trying some fun new things.  Life is too short to not try new things!

Trader Joe’s Mini Haul

I spent the first part of the week in Omaha at the annual Fuel Ethanol Laboratory Conference.  Before we got down to the business of wasting time and drinking coffee at the conference, we shopped.  There’s a rather extensive outlet mall outside of Omaha that I had never been to, so that was a bit of an adventure in shopping and savings.  After the outlet mall, we all headed to Trader Joe’s, which is maybe one of my favorite places to wander and shop.  Sometime’s it’s just nice to buy things you don’t have the opportunity to buy at home, and to try some fun and random new things.

Full disclosure, these aren’t my photos….because I didn’t think of doing this until after I had already torn through some of my purchases.  I can’t help it….I get excited about things!

dscn9618-695x800

Every once in awhile, I like lemon curd on toast.  So, I finally decided I should buy some for the house!  I haven’t tried it yet, but I’m sure it’s good.  Honestly, I’ve never bought anything from Joe’s that I didn’t like.

english-toffee-1-of-5

This is possibly my favorite Trader Joe’s treat.  Tastes almost exactly like what Momma MisHappenings makes for Christmas except that we use pecans instead of the almonds that coat these little beauties.  Plus side, after you eat the large toffee chunks, you’re left with delightful crumbles of chocolate, toffee, and almonds that are great on ice cream, granola, a fruit crisp…..honestly the possibilities are endlessly delicious!

img_3489-768x1024

I don’t ever particularly like chocolate, but these little morsels of caffeine just hit the spot!

I LOVE BOXWOOD!

Boxwood’s might honestly be my favorite plant.  They smell good, they are a nice little shrubbery, and I pretty much think they are the best things ever!  So, I of course had to buy a wreath to hang on my gate.  I think my coworkers maybe thought I was insane, but I really don’t care.  Nothing gets in the way of me and my festiveness!!

roasted-tomatillo-mango-salsa

This was a new purchase, but I’m glad I threw it into the mix.  A good amount of tangy and spicy.  It’s also a good texture.  I don’t like a super soupy salsa, but I also don’t love having to eat it like a meal.  I’m not sure that it really tastes all that mango-y to me.  It’s definitely more of a traditional salsa than a fruit salsa.

trader-joes-cold-brew-coffee-concentrate-100-arabica-beans-32fl-oz-0

I have yet to figure out how to make myself a proper iced coffee at home.  Usually, I just resort to pouring cold coffee that I probably brewed the day before over ice and calling it good.  This coffee concentrate makes a much better iced coffee.  I like mixing it with coconut milk for a slightly favored morning caffeine-y treat!

Itrader-joes-lightly-sweetened-coconut-strips

These did not survive the trip back from Omaha…..I got the bored hotel munchies.  Oopsy! Honestly, there isn’t much to say about this.  If you like coconut you really can’t go wrong with these!

I also got a few other things that I’m not at liberty to discuss at this time.  With that said, back to the Christmas knitting I go!

Weekend Fix #2 and Shopping

I received my second Stitch Fix box this week and thought I would fill you all in on the details!  I’m not sure I’m really going out my fixes in the right way. I find that most of the pieces I don’t like. This time all I requested was a motorcycle style jacket, and on that note my stylist did deliver.

image

Very cute and real leather, I just have so many purses already that I don’t use.  Plus, I have a tassel purse already in maroon.

image

I had been looking for a “cold shoulder” top for summer, but this one just wasn’t my style.

image

This was listed as a “Lace Peplum”, however it fit just like a lace tank top.  I already have a navy blue lace peplum top that’s much fancier and more sophisticated than this.  This absolutely had to go back!

image

I would have kept these jeans as they fit ok, but they were way too short for me.

image

My moto jacket!  Love it!!  It’s a soft sweatshirt material which is perfect since I don’t really have many fall jackets.  This one was definitely a keeper!!!

I also rounded out my week with some more shopping!

I ordered one of the new split pans from Becca cosmetics and Jaclyn Hill in Amaretto/Prosecco Pop….it’s perfect for summer and I’m in love.  Along with the new makeup came a new highlighting brush and one of Urban Decay’s ozone lip liner pencils.  Oily skin often leads to bleeding lip colors.  I tried the ozone pencil with a dark lip today and it held up well even while eating Five Guys with Momma so it seems really promising!

My gym had there summertime sale and I picked up some comfy pieces on ultra discount!

image

Love these comfy and soft long sleeves from Hard Tail.  This is my second one, and I snagged it for 60% off!  Ignore the stock photo, mine is in the washing machine!

image

Cute little peplum style sweater.  It’s slightly big on me, and Momma rocks it.  She forgot it at my house, so you get a picture of it!

Momma and I took a lower key weekend to the home renovation projects, which left time for some extra shopping downtown!  Took a stroll through one of my favorite home decor/clothing stores.  Ideally, I would just like to move into that store, but they probably frown on that sort of thing.

image

Snagged this gorgeous plaid shirt dress!  Is gonna go perfectly with my leather belt and buck and all of my boots.  Super comfy and swimming….my new love!

I also picked up a desk for the loft area upstairs, but pictures of that will come once I get the upstairs organized and put together a bit more.  Something to look forward to I guess!!

Hear Ye, Hear Ye!!!

So…….I have an announcement to make……

I’M NO LONGER A SINGLE TWENTY SOMETHING!

I, through the denied schemes of my Chemistry Smarty Pants and her boyfriend, have managed to snag myself a super cute, super nice, Nebraska guy.  For years now, the CSP has been touting the wonders of boys from Nebraska……”Come visit and we’ll find you a nice Catholic boy!”, “We just need to find you a nice guy, come to Omaha!”  Well CSP, hats off to you because you were right all along!!  He was part of my New Year’s adventures with the Bear Cubs, sooooo technically…I didn’t even have to go to Nebraska to find him! 🙂

FullSizeRenderIMG_5506

I only have the two pictures, and they aren’t great cuz they were at a bar and a concert…..  but seriously…..LOOK AT THE CUTENESS!!!!  Ugh, I die!!  Plus, he makes me a very happy girl. 🙂 (Ignore my extra spiky looking eyelashes in the first pic, they usually don’t look like that I promise….. :/ )

So last Friday night Scout, my new travel french press, and I ventured into Nebraska to spend a long weekend with my Main Squeeze!  I had to haul my own coffee because he doesn’t drink coffee.  He’s one of those moderately disturbing “morning people”.  So, I ordered myself a little travel mug french press thinger to leave there so I don’t die when I visit.  I’m way less fun to hang out with if I don’t get my morning caffeine fix.

It should be noted that I’ve spent most of my life avoiding Nebraska.  This stems from a deep seated, high school hatred of the stupid kids…..who would drive across the river in their stupid dually trucks….to the DQ….to try and order stupid amounts of food…..all on separate tickets…..through the drive through window.  Pro tip kids…..all we ever heard was your trucks!!  Might as well just park that puppy and come inside because you’re gonna have to shut it off to order anyway.  Sorry for the sidetrack……but it needed to be said….if only because it still annoys me and I haven’t worked at the DQ for 10 years!  Going to Nebraska is a hot button issue for me!

Friday

He took me snack shopping Friday night because my Juice Stop for the road was not cutting it.  I……WE….WE…..then proceeded to sorta burn a double pepperoni frozen pizza which we should not have been eating anyway because #FridaysduringLent!  It wasn’t that burnt, and frankly wasn’t even the worst pizza I’ve ever eaten.

Saturday

The dogs and the window replacement dudes woke us up.  So, we mostly hungout in the kitchen corralling the dogs.  I may or may not have eaten half of the burnt pizza, a bag of sour octopus gummies, and struggled trying to make coffee in what I can only assume is a miniature microwave.  He had a bowl of dry cheerios and at some point started eating croutons our of the bag like chips…….I giggled…. a lot.

After the windows were done, we napped.  Basically, we were super anti productive! We did finally shower and motivate because there was a baseball fundraiser event we were meeting the CSP and her man at.  So, I spent the night in a small town gym with some of my fav people, drinking Bud Heavy, discovering that toy tractors are a thing people collect…..like seriously collect….. and generally living life like a big cob.  The hat is maybe only funny because of how I became the owner of said hat.  I think it’s hilarious, given my company that night, you don’t have to understand!

FullSizeRender

So this is what I’m gonna be rocking from now on….Big Cob Hybrids…totally a thing!  I mean you wouldn’t wanna be a small cob!?

On the way home from the small town I had that moment where you don’t realize how much you have drunk till you leave the party.  Also, we didn’t really eat anything during the day which could have also contributed to the slightly tipsy munchies.  So….we had to stop at McD’s.  Whilst in the drive through I discovered that he doesn’t eat Ketchup…..cue face palm.  I, who allegedly while drunk, used basically an entire bottle of ketchup on a chicken strip basket, am dating the only person I know who doesn’t eat ketchup.  Sigh…….I mean I guess he’s allowed to have a downfall…..I just never expected that it would be ketchup!!

Sunday

Sleeping in is glorious!  Well as much sleeping in as the fur babies would allow us.  Followed by more sleeping, because that’s what weekends are for.

12647210_636911064125_5218041062041208512_n

These are the fur babies….code named Thunderpaws and Little Foot.  Little Foot is always down for chilling, Thunderpaws is always down for fetch.

We lounged around, whined about being hungry, and then…..shopping!!  My Main Squeeze drove me over to Lush because I was out of bubbles, and a life without bubbles isn’t really a life I want to be living honestly.  So, into Lush we went and started the process of sniffing bath bombs and bubble bars.  Mostly I buy Lush online, so there is a whole world of stuff there that I know nothing about….smell wise.

Everything was alright until we got to a pink bubble bar…..I couldn’t even tell you what it was called, or even what it was supposed to smell like.  Not great….it was pretty not great! I do however really wish I had a camera to capture the subsequent face of horror/confusion/terror that flashed across Main Squeeze’s face when I made him smell it!!  After the initial shock was over, he just looked at me panicked and asked, “Why can I taste it!?!”……followed by several “That was awful!!!”.  All in all I think he’s pretty glad to have survived the experience in one piece.  Lucky, for me though I got stocked up on all my fav things!

  • 2 Brightside Bubble Bars — Orange scented and amazingly refreshing.  These are my favorite.  I break each bar into 4 pieces and it still gives a huge amount of lightly zesty bubbles.
  • Rose Jam Bubbleroon Bubble Bar — Smells like a huge bouquet of fresh roses.  I used half of this the other night and it was lovely.  More calming I think than the Brightsides, but it’s just a difference in scent.
  • Blackberry Bath Bomb — Haven’t tried this yet, but it smells fruity and nice.  I’ve used a different scent and I like them because they are huge.  I generally throw them onto the floor of my garage to crack them in half.  I find that I feel softer after the bath bombs than the bubble bars.
  • Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner — Same Rose Jam smell as the Bubbleroon.  It’s lotion you apply in the shower!  Sorta weird as it makes water bead up and repel off of you, but I’d rather put on my lotion in my nice toasty shower than in my cold bathroom!!  It feels a bit waxy in the shower, but once you dry off it leaves you super soft with a nice light scent.

Next time I need to refill my stash I’m hoping they still have Big Bang Bubble Bars.  They are supposed to be lemon and grapefruit scented and that sounds perfect for summertime relaxing!!

So Nebraska has this thing…..called Nebraska Furniture Mart.  Sounds harmless and normal right!?  Well people kept talking about it like it was some huge deal, and I’m just over here thinking like, “It’s a furniture store people, like calm the fuck down kids!”  So, after Lush and stopping to grab me another Juice Stop for a snack, Main Squeeze took me to the furniture mart.  I HAVE NO WORDS!!!!  I mean obviously, it’s a blog so there will be words…..but seriously!!  Someone should have emotionally prepared me!!  I spent most of the time while we were trying to find a parking spot freaking out cuz he was hungry and hadn’t had any food yet, and here he was taking me shopping instead of getting food.  Unbeknownst to me, he was scheming the entire time……he’s very scheme-y this Main Squeeze of mine, always in the cutest way possible.

IMG_5678

HE KNEW THERE WAS FOOD THERE THE WHOLE TIME!!!!

We spent a while wandering around the various BUILDINGS that comprise the Furniture Mart.  Like you have to walk outside to get to different departments!  It was amazing!!!  So, I found a bedroom set I can’t afford, the mystical mermaid pillows, and taught him all about the struggle that is finding a good, affordable, and not heinous area rug.  Did you know that they now make a refrigerator that has a Keurig machine in it?!?!?  The Squeeze has been informed that that’s the fridge I want for the European castle we are going to buy.  He supports my choice…..he’s the best like that.

Sunday night we watched some History Channel…..which I never get to do.  I‘m glad that he shares my opinions on how stupid some of the sellers on  Pawn Stars are!  After we got some TV ranting outta our systems, Squeeze made me noodles and we watched Crimson Peak.  Bitch Faced Bestie told me it was scary…..it was good, but idk that ‘scary’ is the word I’d use to describe it.

Monday

My Squeeze had to run to the DMV in the morning to register his new car, so the fur babies and I stayed home and packed my stuff back up.  I had basically exploded my bag all over his spare room and taken up the entire bathroom with stuff, so getting it all put back together is a bit of an ordeal.  As soon as he got back home, it was snack time.  If you haven’t discovered, I’m a bit like a puppy.  I like snacks, naps, and occasionally some exercise!!  We had bacon and toast, and then it was time for a movie and a nap.  Luckily, I know what happens during Pirate of the Caribbean, so missing the middle due to a quick nap was no big deal.

After the nap and movie, it was time to head home.  I pretty sadly loaded up my near to exploding bag and the pupster, and we headed home.  After a brief detour through the Burger King drive through, I was confronted with a pretty substantial amount of traffic.  It took me probably 10 minutes to remember that it was Monday around 5pm!!

All in all, it was a good weekend.  I’m glad I got to spend some quality chillaxing time with my Main Squeeze, and I’m pretty excited to tell you all about him!!

Blue Jean Blues, Fake Flannel, and a Graduation Goal

UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH

Why, why, why, must buying blue jeans be one of life’s greatest mysteries?  I don’t understand why guys can walk in anywhere, grab a pair of jeans, and everything is fine.  With all of our scientific and technological advances, you’d think we could transfer that “magic” to women’s jeans!?  Even if you think you know what you want…..nothing will ever fit you like you think it should.

I’m size mouse at Gap, and size walrus as H&M. Make up your *$% damn minds!”

On a side note….go watch all of Matt Bellassi’s Whine About It videos. They are hilarious. He’s like my gay, drunk spirit animal! He totally understands my feelings on life!

Last night, Momma and I tried on 9 pairs of jeans between us.  All of the jean styles I ordered I have previously worn….do you think that any of them fit……well….yes and no.  Yes, they all technically fit, but for some reason The Buckle decided to change their denim blend to that lovely early 2000’s super stretch!  Ugh, high school me would have been super amped, adult me is sorta less enthused.  Momma ended up with a couple new pairs, most of her’s were ruled out due to length, although one horrible pair was way too big, bad, and bulky in the hip area.

This week I also ordered an oversized flannel hoodie off the interwebs.  I was super excited until I received it, and realized it was an awful polyester/acrylic blend.  Ugh…..that’s not what flannel is!  Flannel is supposed to be soft….and glorious…..and warm…..and make you want to curl up with cider, in your boots, on a crispy fall day.  This on the other hand is sorta itchy, feels waxy, isn’t all that warm, and if I kept it would most likely hang ignored in my closet.  Luckily, Momma came to the rescue measuring and sketching a pattern.  Then she did find an actual pattern for a pajama shirt that is actually the same size.  It will need some slight modifications, but I think it will do the trick very nicely.  Momma rescue for the win!!

Sex and the City taught us many things….I should have remembered this life lesson!

Yesterday, on the drive down to Momma’s, I decided that when I graduate with my Master’s I’m going to buy myself a boat.  The family that bought our Sea Jet has her out at the marina, in a slip, and they appear to be spending lots of time out on her.  Which makes me happy, but also super jealous.  So, to deal with this I’m going to buy myself a new Sunfish.  Graduation will be the perfect time too…..just in time for summertime funtime!  Time to commence a more stringent budget I guess……
